This #FeatureFriday we have @Aaaronsmith377.bsky.social and his three song EP – Recording in Progress.
Anyone who has come across Aaron and his music will know that not only is he a story teller but he is a solid human being. He has a moral center that permeates his music. He plays and sings with soul and honesty. He tells stories, he wears his heart on his sleeve but takes no prisoners.
I am the mirror
I see right through you
I am the mirror

you’ve done
There’s an idiosyncratic charm to Aaron’s music and on this EP it really shines. The sparse recoding clean and clear cut gives Aaron’s lyrics room to breathe. To land. It has a real heart. Totally recommend.

Aaron’s style of music is something that has intrigued me, ever since I first heard it a year ago. In the most general sense, it can be called Folk Rock, however, the way he uses vocals is something that I feel is pretty unique. It usually is less singing and more like rhythmic speaking that gets accentuated by riffs from his guitar.
The effect this approach has is such that whatever topic Aaron chooses to sing about, gets hammered into the listeners mind. His delivery is normally very conversational and unexcited, which makes the few moments where he does bring more emotion in his voice all the more meaning and impactful.
“Recording in Progress” follows the same stylistic pattern. The first song “The Mirror”, is an almost accusatory piece, telling people to become aware of the impact their actions have on their environment, while “Birds Of Prey” seems to be about his desire for unity despite differences. It is also the song, where Aaron uses a more emotional approach in his vocals, leading to a feeling of pleading to whoever it is he adresses here. “Fallen Pick Found”, the final track of the EP, is a purely instrumental piece with a rather heavy and crunchy sound.
This song, like similar ones before it, provides the audience with a canvas of sound, that invites them to project their own ideas and emotions on it. Overall, this is a good, if short, collection of songs that make for a perfect introduction to Aaron’s unusual style. Since I happen to enjoy unusual things in music, I highly recommend it.
A short three-track EP featuring two songs and an instrumental piece. While the project doesn’t follow a unifying theme, it remains cohesive thanks to its consistent one man guitar-and-vocals formula. A cool comeback after a few of years of downtime, definitely worth checking out!
I’m reviewing Birds of Prey off of our good friend @aaronsmith377.bsky.social‘s latest EP!! The intro to this song really sets an ominous tone, without getting too overwhelming, and his lyric writing really gets a chance to shine!
The song ebbs and flows, and I REALLY dig the tone the reverb and delay sets in the song to bring you back and forth!
